Arch Angel Tattoo Art 01 | Michael

A friend of mine is getting a tattoo and asked for some designs. Here is my first shot at the first of two Angel tattos. Arch Angel Michael – Battle Angel. I like it as a sketch…but good lord it’s going on someone’s body. That’s hard core. It needs a lot of refinement. But its ok for a stage one sketch. Also the size restraints are interesting it has to fit within the space of his arm.

Norse Gods | LOKI

Loki (god of fire, magic, and mischief, son of Fárbauti) has always been one of my favorite characters. He’s tricksies.

Cowbocto Khan

Space Octopus Cowboy, yes.

I don’t really know what else to say about him. I’m watching Kill Bill now. It’s pretty awesome. Actually…I like this guy because it’s a step back toward the simple, I tried to consolidate the lines and refrain from over rendering. I like the eyes.

Cowbocto_Khan_01No matter how many times I watch this movie…I can’t remember Uma Thurman’s character’s name.

monster drawing gone bad.

there is no reason for this monster…i apologize. god have mercy on our souls.

Alien Mob Boss

Back to the more simplistic Monster Drawings. This was a new Boss idea for the Epic Pet Wars game, His name’s Roi Chun. I like this guy a lot, but I like the sketch more than the finished piece. The eyes in particular.

the monster drawings have taken a turn for sure. this is a little more honest. and familiar. there are 2 here but its the same drawing rotated and I’m not sure which i like better.

The Devil, Old Scratch.

ergh…is it bad? I love this little guy.

ok. they’re getting more complicated. i need to reel it in. but I’m still trying to work out some techniques. Its all drawn and colored in Photoshop so it’s hard to to figure out the balanced between too artsy and too finished. I’m also working through different brushes and drawing styles.

anyway…

three heads. one eye. lots of teeth.

Here’s the sketch, i like the loose quality of the sketches best but usually i work out some issues after doing them. In this case I made the heads bigger and added the eye. Which i think adds a certain something. maybe not.

also… the inspiration for this came from some “dinner to go”

Jambi

So, I guess this is Jambi. I was listening to the song Jambi when I drew it…so there you go. I love this guy. when I have more time I may work on it a little more. But right now I dig him.

Jambi. Like the song.

Degenerix

I put the sketch of this up yesterday, so here’s the color version. I made a texture up in Photoshop by  using different brush sizes and color tones. Then i created a brush from that texture. I laid the flat color down on the image then painted (in gray) on a separate layer (layer mode overlay).

It was fun, I like aspects of it…but it doesn’t seem very cohesive. I probably just need to spend a little more time with it.

Eyes

This was a campaign I was involved in a couple of years ago. The digital work on this was crazy. unfortunately I don’t think it reflects the hours put into it though. By far the biggest challenge was the Eye-Drop-Water-Stream. I had to create a streak which had a lot of energy and motion, but was still clear enough that you could see the white of the eye underneath. Masking off the eye itself was crazy too. I wanted to keep the eyelashes separate from the rest of the eye so that I could fade some of the details out around the lids. that way the eye wouldn’t look cut out and pasted on the page. Anyway, those were the 2 biggest challenges. The fire, sand and barbed wires were pretty easy. So like most work in Photoshop…the flashiest elements were the easiest and the seemingly simple pieces were a nightmare.  Having said that, I really like these pieces, I’m glad I got to work on them. OH! p.s. – I created the transparency on the bottle so that no matter where you move it, it will remain transparent. So cool. I do that kind of stuff for me.

Monster Pets | Turtlebomb

Alright. This one is a liiiiitle too complicated for the look of the game, but I had fun with it.

He’s evil, yo. Probably because he is the color of a butterfly fart.

Twin Killers Colored

Trying my hand at some new techniques. I can’t tell if I like this or not. I like the potential. Probably just need to do it about 12,000 more times.

Norse Gods | Odin II and III

So, here is the final rendered art for Odin. Again…it makes me laugh when i see the initial sketch. Before starting the final rendering I made his beard bigger, I think it was more fitting a Norse God. And the only difference between these two is the black outline.

Norse Gods | Odin

Another Character design. I’ll talk more about this tomorrow. I will say…I’m glad I  liked the concept of this guy enough to keep messing with it. The Sketch is HORRIBLE. it looks like some sort of avian trash can.

UFC Forrest Griffin Mickey’s Fine Malt Liquor

Mickey’s sponsored the UFC for a number of years. At one point they began sponsoring UFC fighters and picked up Forrest Griffin (he eventually became the light heavy weight belt holder)Without going into a lot of detail (because I don’t really enjoy writing). We did a campaign featuring Forrest. One of the elements in the campaign was a series of posters called “Forrest Griffin’s Life Lessons” in these posters Forrest walks the consumer through a couple of real life scenarios and shows us the proper way to conduct ourselves should these situations arise.

On a side note: I still think its funny that we had him barefoot and in shorts no matter where he went.

On another side note: Forrest was cool as hell.

Old Photoshop. Butterflies, No Hurricanes.

I was going through some old files on my computer and came across these. I used to work at a local photography studio and so we always had props cameras and models on hand. Generally, when I had down time I would play with some of the images our photographers would take. these are some results from then. Like most of the things I do…I can’t tell if they’re cool or not. But I like them

Little Monsters | Epic Pet Wars

panda_sample640

I’ve been throwing together some character designs recently, it’s a lot of fun. The trick is trying to keep things simple. Let the designs and the concepts do the work. some of these i like, and some i like a lot. but they all stare.
